A new magnetic motorised dual-axis scanner from Phoenix Inspection Systems offers a wide range of possibilities in automatic inspection.
The MagScan can be used on everything from pipes as small as 4” OD to flat plate. It is the ideal tool for weld inspection and corrosion mapping as the dual-axis function allows for techniques such as raster scanning, circumferential and longitudinal inspection, and can perform in any orientation.
The MagScan is fully encoded and holds up to six ultrasonic probes. Options available include the use of a laser or chain guide and peristaltic pump. The system can be driven with any commercially available instrumentation that incorporates motor control or the Phoenix MCPA controller. The MagScan is compact and lightweight, with an IP66 rating and offers inspection speeds of up to 50mm per second.
Paul Ryan, sales manager with Phoenix, said: “Due to the increase in demand for automated phased array and TOFD inspection, the MagScan is proving popular, especially as it can be used with a variety of instrumentation, probes and wedges. Its versatility provides the users with a cost-effective scanner for a wide range of applications.”
