Scanner helps Alstom reduce inspection times
A new automatic scanner to detect cracks in the blade root fixings of steam turbine discs has allowed Alstom to replace manual inspections with the latest phased array techniques.  The system, designed by Phoenix, has drastically reduced typical inspection times while at the same time providing a permanent record of the results. It will be deployed at power stations worldwide where Alstom power plants are installed.

Phased array aids early detection of cancer
A new medical scanner which uses polymer PVDF phased array probes, in place of a mechanically scanned one, can help to detect skin cancers and other conditions at an early stage. Phoenix is developing the piezo-polymer transducers for the scanner, the work being part of a £1.1 million government-funded research and development project led by medical technology company Longport.

Magman
This popular magnetic wheeled scanner was designed specifically for manual operation. Compact yet robust, it carries up to eight ultrasonic probes. The Magman is highly versatile and capable not only of scanning flat  plate welds but also of the inspection of pipes down to 50mm outside diameter.
Mini Magman
Simple to operate with just one hand, the Mini Magman holds up to four probes and is useful for low-profile inspections of pipe and plate. This highly adaptable magnetic wheeled scanner is ideal for phased array.
 MagScan
A magnetic motorised dual-axis scanner, ideal for scanning pipes or any flat or curved surfaces. Suitable for phased array, TOFD, or corrosion mapping, the MagScan offers a range of stroke lengths and can carry up to six probes at a time.
Compact size means it can be set up by one operator.
Can be configured to perform axial scans with circumferential increments or vice versa and can be connected to the Phoenix MCPA, motor controller, or any commercially available instrumentation that incorporates motor control.
MultiMag
 The new MultiMag scanner is ideal for TOFD and / or Phased Array/PE inspection and is available in either a two or four probe arrangement. The quick release handles allow for fast and easy probe and encoder set ups. The scanner is designed to aid inspection on misaligned welds and operates from 75mm diameter to flat.
